February first: update catch up time

And yes it is the month of February already. 13 more days before Social Awareness Day (SAD, but that does not mean Single Awareness Day), and 12 more days until Friday the 13th comes along. And I guess I decide therefore to push through with my plans of the "secret rose delivery" to two of the most admired girls I've had in my college life (clue? well one's a newbie in college, while the other is leaving college soon :P).

And you may wonder why I seem to be a bit happy now as compared to a few days back. Well here's a summary:

January 29:
ACP trippin' with the GuidonKada (Namely Reema, Bea M., Jem R., KC, and Chino) plus my AHS-Psych friends (JohnD and Maxi) to Amadeo, Cavite for some coffee lovin'. While sleeping during the trip, there were some times while we were in the bus that Bea leans her head with into my shoulder (and being the not-so-touchy person I am . . . ); I felt sort of really awkward about it, but at least it wasn't with someone else I guess (Oh My God I am trying to imagine if Jan would be like that or even Notebook for that matter).  No offense, but being the guy who practically went through his whole high school life not caring that much for the opposite sex, I guess these things (like having an unusual closeness with the opposite sex, being placed with a girls-dominated groups, being joked around as being gay) are happening for the sake of me adjusting to this whole co-ed thing. I just don't like being touchy with people, and it freaks me out at times, but I can sometimes (and yes, SOMETIMES) bear with such a situation (and it would be much much worse if it was a straight guy being touchy to me . . . that will really kill me to death for sure)

Well anyways, while in Amadeo, we went around and explored various coffee plants, and boy, our country should be proud of its agriculture, being able to actually produce coffee for the Capitalist stores like Starbucks. It just gives me a reason on why I should be proud to be a Filipino.

Of course the place is a good PhotoOp, so obviously I brought Erika (my DSLR) with me to take photos. With just a 50mm lens (and occasionaly, a flash) during the trip, I realized that these nifty piece of lens, minus the zoom plus the fact that it is actually older than me (I'm guessing the age of this lens at around 21 years old), I could take a lot of good pictures (which gives me the reason not to use the kit lens that often anymore).

Then going home, there was a breaking news that came out on TV, saying that something exploded in Trece Martires, Cavite, just near Amadeo. Thank God we safely went home then.

January 30:
The latest issue of the Guidon arrived at the publications room, and I am simply happy at the outcome of it. Also, I am very proud of KC Felix (my co-staffer) for having a banner story for this month. Now I wish to have my own banner story, which I wrote it by myself (my first one was made together with Nikko and Jan last year, and the next that came was with Cindy and Anna, and the most recent two were with Bea). I've written my own News Feature already, but I want to take a stake in writing my own banner story; I wonder the pressure behind it (and I saw this as KC was asking help from me in doing her banner story), question is, will I make it through? I hope so.

Also, I covered IGnation that day (instead of the ASLA talk, which for some reason got cancelled) and I was caught by what Mark Ruiz said on innovation, something that the Philippines greatly needs and lacks for its uncompetitiveness. I guess we need someone who can redefine the reputation of the Philippines, aka step up and make the country be in the competitive scene. A lot has to be done to reform the country.

Going back to the Pub, a lot of things was going through in my mind . . . being EA, EB race, Acads, money . . . that I decided not to leave immediately and rest for a while in the common room. While resting, I suddenly had the mood to create a dummy for the February issue ( as press is coming real soon already). Then after some reflecting, I went inside the Guidon room, saying Hi to the editors, got my stuff, and left. And upon seeing Jan, I sense something different; she had this certain look at me (which I don't know what does that mean), and suddenly she cling on to Francis. I don't know why, but that does not matter to me for now.

January 31:
This for me has to be the most memorable NSTP moments I have had. Well for the second tutoring session in a row, I did not have my tutees, so I had to teach a different kid instead. Good thing that what I was suppose to teach was math, since the kid had a difficult time in math (I was suppose to teach some history, but the time wasn't enough).

At first, it seemed to be frustrating for me, that he could barely understand the Slope-intercept form. He made a lot of mistakes right from the start. And yet, it didn't stop me to repeat the concept to him. I felt repetitive, but it paid off; slowly, the kid gets a grasp of the lesson. I taught the kid about the same topic for around ten or more times, and each time I teach him on it, he slowly gets closer to the correct way until for the last try, he was able to get it at last, and I was able to make the most of the allotted time for NSTP. I never felt that gratified ever.

Then after NSTP, I brought my car to the shop to have the shock absorbers replaced. My dad initially paid for it, but I had to pay my dad upon reaching home, because he had to pay for a lot of things come February. And because of that, my funds went swooping down to 500 bucks (plus the recent 1000 bucks I got from my mom today). Now how will I be able to save up 40k  for a 17-40L OR a 70-200 F4L? Saving money in the midst of economic recession is a big challenge.

AND for Today:
I had a haircut at last, and look civilized at least, studied a bit for Spanish, studied Psych (and did my PoS paper) yesterday, did some Guidon stuff, and best of all, I am actually making progress for the EB race! Suddenly, I had the mood for a column article. And for some reason, February seems to be nice at me; I remember at this time last year, I was being tortured by the evil EN12 paper that I almost failed at; but for this year, my worries are Psych (uhm groupmates when are we doing this???), PoS interviews (I have to contact the Senate office tomorrow ASAP or else I have to find someone to interview instead), Spanish LT, NSTP shizz (Khia and Bry and AJ, please help me out on this), Theo, and EA duties / EB race for Guidon. Yet, I do not feel as stressed as I was compared to last year. I guess I should start getting my act to finish them, the semester's ending soon, and just for you know summer has arrived (and boy, IT IS HOT in the Philippines)

No classes tomorrow, so that means I got to catch up on my work. Ta-Da!
