Our lesson yesterday, which involved the "laro ng sarili" dwelled on the question "sino ako?" In this discussion, he explained that such question is very important as we get to know more of our being as humans. The problem, however, is that we are categorized and judged by society to do such acts, instead of us discovering who are we. Because of our desire of making things easy of us, we fail to see our true selves, and on who are we.
Case 1: The fad culture. We all know this. When Pokemon was the rage, people dig it. When a certain type of fashion was "in", we dig it. When MacBooks are the "in" laptop, we also dig it. This poses a problem to our discovery of being as we live in a constant, automated pace, such that we just follow what the trends are. We disregard about what we need, what is important for us. In this present society, whatever is in, we comply. No questions asked. Such case hinders us from being truly who we are, from being simply ourselves. It destroys the quote "magpakatotoo ka!" Fads in one aspect alienates us from our identity, making us comply with ever-changing trends without a sense of judgement.
Case 2: Bad vices. They are bad, point blank. Yet, despite posing a threat to our health, we tend to comply with our peers who do smoke, drink, do drugs, gamble, have sex, etc. etc. What makes this problematic is that by complying, we fail to use our minds and morals in judging these actions. Because of such, we fall for executing such acts, without awareness of its dangers. That's why vices are very addicting; they place our lives into a constant, consistent pace that hinders us from any possible change (that's why those who withdraw from such vices go crazy). Think of it like a car that has an automatic transmission: put in on D (Drive for short), and you are off to go, then when you switch to a car that has manual transmission, you become dumbfounded about it since you don't know how to use the clutch.
Case 3: (Un)True love. I bet a thousand bucks that almost all of us out there find love through what . . . someone who is hot, who has the body (girls with the coke body for the guys, and guys with 6-pack abs for the girls), and someone who is rich (that removes you of the burden of working). Honestly, it is not right, seriously. I'd would sometimes say "aanuhin mo pa ang maganda kung walang kwenta yun ugali niya?" on my friends when they ask me on why I would not like this girl which for them they admire.Yes, I've encountered some girls who, although are pretty, hot, and all, BUT have not-so-good attitudes and personalities. The point is that by looking at the physical aspect alone, that is NOT true love. Lust maybe.

And when Doc Gus said that quote (at the start of this blog), it made me think that what I started pondering about love since 1st year college was true. PERSONALITY OVER LOOKS. Sure there may be a lot of pretty girls in campus, but am I sure that all of those pretty girls have a personality to die for? I doubt. I have encountered a couple of supposedly pretty girls BUT have really lousy attitudes. For the record, I despise girls donning the Gossip Girl-like attitude; first, it's so Westernized, and second, they would be all talk, no work / action esp. if they were your future spouse. Think (most) married celebrities.
Another part that struck me is when he mentioned about girls who are "dits". The kind that tries to be cute and stupid at the same time to attract a guy. Honestly, such is a turn off for me. It's okay for me for a girl to be cute, BUT not to the point that she does stupid stuff just to get your attention. I know some guys (no name dropping here) do the same thing to girls, and it's just . . . stupid. If you want to love that person, then just be simply yourself, and that's the main point of yesterday's lesson.

Be yourself. It doesn't hurt to simply be you.
